With the success of 'The Island Of the Mighty,' in the 1970s renamed from the 'Virgin and the Swine" by the great Fantasy editor of the Ballentine Unicorn Series Lin Carter the Welsh Mabinogion was introduced to the J.R.R Tolkien High Fantasy lovers like myself. It was these (and others) along with Lord of The Rings that gave birth to our Three Geese In Flight Celtic Books in Woodstock New York in 1977.Ian Ballentine would come in our shop and introduced me to Alan Lee who was doing illustrations to the Jones and Jones Mabinogion. "Yes", by the way, if you read Tolkien's blurb on the back of the paperback Hobbit, The Master of Middle Earth thanks his righteous American publisher and says Ian Ballentine look just like a hobbit'. He really did! He was short with great uncontrolled eyebrows and wild hair. Here is a particularly Very Good Copy and a Very Good Mylar protected price clipped dust jacket that is quite good at a very good price! Tight binding Inscription on first free end paper. Clean 312 pp. NOT a library copy. Unforgettable Welsh Gods Gwydion, and Math the Ancient within, whose feet had to rest on a virgin's lap! Photos to follow First Edition.
